Rainbow Serpent, Future Music, Falls Festival… The summer festival season has indeed started. It is going to be hot, maybe a little rainy, and hopefully FUN! To make the most out of your festival though, you’ll need to be prepared.
“Do yourself a favour” and get ticking through this list before you even think of stepping foot into a festival – or suffer the unhappy consequences…
Rule #1: Stay fresh
Your morning shower may not be enough to see you through a day of dancing and merriment under the 30 degree heat. Wipes are the answer! Just keep a little pack of fresh wipes in your bag to feel – and smell – fresh all day long. We recommend Wet Ones Hand & Body Wipes from Priceline.
STREET STYLE: FESTIVAL FASHION
Rule #2: No flip-flops
Not only will your toes get trampled on the “dance floor” in any kind of open toed-shoe, but if the sun departs and the rain sets in, you only need a few hours of bad weather to turn the whole site into a mud bath. Go for waterproof, closed toed shoes at the least, and gumboots if you really care for comfort. We recommend DKNY’s Festival Gumboot from David Jones.
Rule #3: Be a real camper
Your camper’s soul is hiding somewhere deep inside you. If you are not really of the camping kind, just try to think convenient. You can survive on a pop up tent, camping mats, a sleeping bag, a torch, insect repellant, noodles, muesli, and lots of water!
Rule #4: Save your battery
Fingers crossed, the sun will probably shine relentlessly! So if you have one of these solar mobile phone chargers, you won’t have to face The Dead Battery Issue. However, if you don’t want to invest in a new gadget, you can always go through your drawers and take your good old NOKIA 3310. Bonus: you can play snake!
Rules #5: Take pictures
A music festival is a unique experience and you want to keep nice memories of it. Of course you can use your smartphone or a small digital camera. But if you’re scared of running out of battery or simply losing it, old school is the answer again. Just buy a disposable camera. First, it’s not worth too much money so it’s no big deal if you lose it; second, you’ll get “actual” pictures!
Rule #6: Protect your skin
Sun creams, sunscreens cream, sunblocks, suncare… Call it whatever you want, but don’t forget to put it on. Also, don’t hesitate to put on a straw hat in order to be protected from the sun, but then with style! We recommend the Cancer Council’s 50+ Kids Sunscreen for Face (no breakouts with this one) and Solar D Active sunscreen 30+ for body.

Rule #7: Hydration
No need to remind you of the importance of hydration. Just make sure you don’t forget to drink water, too!
