Rihanna’s Controversial Snaps IN Abu Dhabi

Rihanna is a fierce, no holds barred kinda gal…with no fear about out there fashion choices, her love life or how people see her. And as such controversy broils around her time and time again, this time thanks to an impromptu photoshoot in Abu Dhabi at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

Wearing a black bodysuit and hijab, the traditional garb of local women, the singer posed in front of the mosque, and while there are clearly efforts to respect the local culture in her outfit there has been a veritable uproar on the interwebs about her outfit and choice of location.

The Independent  has reported that many view her shots as disrespectful, captioning one of her shots with women in the background, also wearing hijabs saying “B*tch stole my look.”

While we are sure that Rihanna meant no harm or disrespect by the shoot, and it is certainly less provocative than what we are used to seeing from her, we do think it was culturally insensitive and probably not the best Insta-shoot choice.

Thoughts?

I think it’s a beautiful photo shoot. It shows she does not discriminate, and it’s bringing the West to the Middle East in a tasteful way.

A fairly tokenistic effort to be sensitive, I think.
